Chiquinho - O Livreiro da UnB

Of short stature, he lives surrounded by immense stacks of books. Owner of a sweet voice and always willing to help, Chiquinho finds gaps between one copy and another to reveal the greatness behind each page. His passion for books brought him from Piauí to the University of Brasília, where he became a reference and, why not, part of the institution's legacy.

The bookseller's story has already stamped newspaper headlines and is now told in the documentary Chiquinho, the bookseller of UnB , the journalist and retired professor of the School of Communication Hélio Doyle.

The pre-releaseexclusive for the academic community is scheduled for Wednesday (29), at 6:00 pm, in amphitheater 10 of the ICC. The event is open and free, but it is important to arrive early, as Chiquinho himself recommends. "I ask anyone who can be there at 5:00 pm It is an event of unprecedented importance for my life, and I will be very happy and invite everyone to attend."

Hélio and Chiquinho met in 1985, when the journalist worked as communications adviser for the then Rector Cristovam Buarque. The bookseller's suggestion as a movie character came from Helio's son, Gabriel Colela.

"When I had magazine One Half, we always made a profile of someone, an important person, but not very well known, who had something prominent in life but not celebrity. In the documentary I wanted to do the same.

Chiquinho has been very enthusiastic about the movie, "Chiquinho" and "Chiquinho" ("Chiquinho"), who is the director of the film, and anxious - with the homage. "I'm going to drink a lot of water to take care of this moment. This production has a historical significance, and it is also a way of acknowledging my four decades at UnB, "he says.

The production focus is the character himself, practically an autodidact who started his way selling newspaper. "Someone who talks on an equal basis with teachers and students and is respected by great writers," says the director.

The value of reading also composes the narrative. "There are two issues, one is the bookseller, who is an endangered figure, that person who knows the books, who guides you, who gives a guess. And it has the side of the importance of the book for people and for culture," he explains. Doyle.

SCENARIO - Although the narrative is based on the trajectory of Chiquinho, the University and the academic community come as a backdrop in production. At a time when federal universities go through budget blockades, the documentary, which was not conceived as a demonstration, ends up contributing to the debate.

"It is sad coincidences, in my opinion, that UnB is suffering this physical attack and also a theoretical attack, to say that the university is unimportant, that it is unimportant to study philosophy, sociology." documentary, telling the story of a character linked to the passion for knowledge and to the University itself, is a way to honor UnB.

Star of the documentary, the bookseller also says he is worried about the present day. "One thing that I've been thinking about is always about three concepts that are being forgotten by society: prudence, loyalty and care for the other." At the same time, he chants with his friend Doyle and throws flowers at the University. "I have a deep love for the institution, which received me with friendship and that completes me. I feel as if it were a second home, or even the first and principal."
