Mixing reality and fiction, Franco Jannuzzi tells the dramatic life of the former Nap Ezio Rossi terrorist (Ennio in the film), passed between the prison and the Psychiatric Judicial Hospital (OPG) of Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto in the province of Messina, closed a lot recently. Beside him a sorrowful humanity, which the director puts on stage through the reconstruction of four true stories of interned.
"Primula rossa" is a documentary film that uses as its common thread an iconic character to which the events of four patients are linked. This is the brilliant psychiatrist Lucio (David Coco), who wants to restore dignity to those who have lost it. There is what is believed to be a CIA agent, one who has lived two lives, the pastor who has been abused by his uncle and, finally, the poet who died suicidal suicide.
Their existence takes shape thanks to the words of the psychiatrist Angelo Righetti , always out of bounds, while the screen shows the strong archive images taken in the years preceding the closure of the institutes. Naked bodies folded on themselves, fed by nurses and people who sleep in bare and dirty rooms. Lucio struggles against this degradation, confiding in his master, played by Roberto Herlitzka . Both recall well the story of Ezio Rossi, a man lost in his difficult past.
Red primrose: a work capable of conveying a strong message
The hybrid chosen by the director can create some confusion in the viewer, who cannot always get to the heart of the narrative. And yet, the final shot of the real Ezio Rossi is enough to touch the highest point of the work. The ex-terrorist's face full of wrinkles is almost a film in itself.
With "Primula rossa" we want to enhance a program, "Luce è libertà", thanks to which, in just two years, sixty people left the Psychiatric Judicial Hospital of Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto (Messina), including Ezio Rossi himself . This work was also carried out with the contribution of former internees.
